# CRY-06 Secure Key Generation

- Domain: CRY – Cryptography and Key Management
- Since C5:2020: changed (formerly CRY-04)
- Web page: https://c5.patrickscheid.de/en/cry-06/

## Basic criterion

### CRY-06.01B

Procedures and technical safeguards for the secure generation of keys for different cryptographic systems and applications are documented and implemented. These safeguards require the use of secure random bit generators or generation based on keys that were created in this fashion.

**Supplementary information:**

For the definition of secure random number generators, cloud service providers should refer to BSI TR-02102-1 (Chapter 8).

The cloud service provider protects the keys which are created and inserted into the cloud service by the cloud service customers according to the same criteria as the keys created by the cloud service provider.

## Changes since C5:2020

From BSI's C5:2026 changelog.

**Basic criterion:**

Dissolved the former key management criterion and moved key generation into its own criterion with extended requirements.

**Additional criterion:**

Dissolved the former key management criterion and moved key generation into its own criterion, to which the former key management additional criterion does not apply.
